I was fortunate to speak at length with Peter on August 8th just a few days before his passing. I had called on the 30th anniversary of his hiring me to work with him at Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Mercer County. We spoke of old times and many memories.
My work at BBBS of Mercer County was joy primarily because of Peter. While there, I came to call him “Uncle Pete” because of the special caring relationship he showed with me and all his staff. It was a real pleasure just to hear him chuckle whenever I called him Uncle Pete. It seemed to touch his heart and in some small way lighten the heavy load he always carried as Executive Director.
Peter’s kind-hearted spirit and unwavering commitment to the children, families and mission showed in all he did. While my time with BBBS of Mercer County was just 28 months, it was through his example and openness that I was able to learn, grow and move forward with my career and take a position as Executive Director of BBBS of Greater Manchester in New Hampshire.
Peter was able to almost magically touch the heart of all he met. He certainly touched mine. I’ve been blessed to have had “Uncle Pete” as part of my life.

Jim Yadlon and his Family would like to extend our deepest condolences to Deedie Weaver and Peters entire family for their loss. We are all so sad at the sudden loss of Peter. Just a week ago, Pete and I had a two and a half hour lunch catching up on old times and talking about BBBS and Jazz and our amazement of the human race. I never thought that I would never see him again as we parted ways that day. I only wish that I had a clue that this would be our final time together so I could have told Pete how much he meant to me and how much fun we had talking about all kinds of things in our lives. Pete was a truly unique man with a huge heart and a love of people.
I will miss him more that I could ever express.
Deedie, we are here for you now and please call upon us for any need. Pete loved you so much and we know that it will be tough for you going forward.
Best wishes to you, Deedie, and your entire family.
