Obituary of Elva Marie McGee

Elva Marie Juanita McGee (nee Gordy) went to join her parents and her beloved brothers in God's House on Thursday, August 26th, 2021. Elva was born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 6, 1931, to Estella B. Gordy and Delton J. Martin, Sr.
She was a product of Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Parochial School in Wilmington Delaware. Elva worked for the Atlantic City Post Office for 25 years, in various positions, retiring in 1991. She later worked for the Superior Court of New Jersey in Jury Management for 14 years.
Elva was an avid reader and world traveler. She was a faithful member of Saint Monica Roman Catholic Church on Pennsylvania Avenue in Atlantic City for over 60 years. After its closing in 2015, she continued her membership at Our Lady Star of the Sea (Parish of Saint Monica) on Atlantic Avenue. She was very active in many ministries in both churches.
She leaves to cherish her many memories, her daughters: Karen J. Johnson (Kenneth), Antoinette "Toni" McGee and Lynn McGee: Grandchildren: Kendale Ingrum (Greg), Umm Arshaan/Carla (Sulaiman), Eric McGee, and Jasmine Gant. Great Grands: Arshan, Rashid, Rasan, Chelsi, Jordan, Niyla, Eric Jr., Alijah, Chi & Aqil. Elva was also blessed with eight great-great-grandchildren, Godsons: Christopher Brice and Anthony Mack, her much loved son-in-law Kenneth, and many relatives, and "special friends" too numerous to list. Elva is predeceased by her parents, her two brothers; Dr, Irvin D. Gordy, Sr.("Ike") and Delton J. Martin, Jr. ("Pistol"), and Nephew, Sheldon Gordy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Elva at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 2651 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City. Viewing for Relatives and Friends from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. The Rite of Committal will be offered at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum , Route 40 in Mays Landing, following the Mass. Elva requests those attending to please wear bright colors.
