McDEVITT, JOSEPH JOHN 53 of Ventnor, passed away suddenly on January 21, 2021 secure in the peaceful embrace of his loving family.
Joe was a lifelong Ventnor resident and educator retired after 26 years teaching in the Atlantic City School District. He was a graduate of Richard Stockton University.
Joseph was a shining star and a fixture in the greater Atlantic City community his entire life. He served two terms on the Atlantic County Freeholder Board with distinction. He coached for the Atlantic City High School Vikings and Ventnor Pirate football teams and served 3 years on the Ventnor Beach Patrol with his brother Bob.
Joe was most recently involved at Holy Spirit High School as a Football Coach, Girls Crew father and a member of the Fathers Club. He was an active, involved parishoner of St. Monica's Parish and a supporter of Our Lady Star of the Sea School in Atlantic City. Joe also devoted his time to the AOH, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, AC Moose Lodge and the Ventnor Republican Club. He also served on the Ventnor and Atlantic City School Boards.
Joe's positive influence has helped several generations of Atlantic County youth reach their academic and athletic potential and has touched the lives of thousands of Atlantic County residents - young and old.
Joseph is predeceased by his beloved Grandmother Florence (Thomas) and Grandfather William, Grandparents Ted and Anne Corsaletti and his devoted parents Robert and Carolyn (Corsaletti) McDevitt. He is survived by his loving wife Ailyn, daughter Joselyn and son Robert; brother Michael; brother Bob and his wife Juliet (Monfardini); his niece Jennifer and nephews Patrick, Matthew, James, Paul and Thomas.
He is also survived by Ailyn's extended family including her niece Gemma Bunting and nephew Khai, sister-in-law Arlene and her childen Reunier Rainier, Reinard, Risselle, Risailen, Reineal, and Reynaldo; sister Rhea her husband Arlan and their children Auldrene, Arlan, Alexander, Abbie Mary, Ace and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Joe McDevitt 10:00am Monday, February 8 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church 2651 Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. The Mass is limited to family members and close friends due to COVID restrictions. Following Mass at noon, the Rite of Committal will be offered at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, route 40 in Mays Landing where guests will be invited to share stories of Joe's adventures with best friends Milty, Little Mickey and the whole Ventnor Posse - along with other sentiments in celebration of Joseph's life.
The McDevitt family encourages guests to wear Holy Spitit or Notre Dame attire in honor of Joe's memory. This summer, family and friends will gather again on the beach at the Ventnor Pier to further celebrate Joe's remarkable life.
